Wallpaper and feature walls built on flat prep first
Paint forgives a small ripple more readily than paper. Feature work starts with honest substrate checks - strip failed vinyl, skim highs and lows, prime to the manufacturer sheet - then adhesives are mixed to ratio and drops are checked before the wall is committed. The goal is edges that stay down and seams that do not shout under side light.
What wallpaper scopes spell out
Hanging quotes may specify:
- Removal of loose old paper, size, and adhesive residue down to a stable face
- Cross lining or direct seal/prime when the pattern or brand requires a flat keyed surface
- Paste-the-wall, paste-the-paper, or heavy vinyl systems matched to the roll in hand
- Feature paint bands, shadow gaps, or panelling junctions cut in before final trim seals
Rooms that suit paper over plain paint
- Headboard walls where a wide repeat needs centreing on the bed
- Small cloakrooms where one bold print replaces tiling cost
- Living rooms pairing half-height panelling with paper above the rail
Wallpaper - before you order rolls
Can you hang over existing paper to save money?
Only when the old face is sound, well adhered, and the manufacturer allows it. Otherwise removal is quoted so the new face does not shear off later.
Who buys the rolls?
You usually supply the correct batch-matched rolls; we specify quantity after measuring. If you want a supply-and-fit package, that is agreed as a separate line.
How do you handle plug sockets and light switches?
Faceplates are loosened where safe and paper is trimmed back neatly; complex smart plates are discussed before cutting.
Where wallpaper time really goes compared with emulsion
Measuring repeats, booking widths, and waste planning take longer than rolling one colour. Skipping that shows at the last drop when the pattern falls wrong at the corner.
- Buy order calculated from roll width and pattern repeat, not guesswork
- Humid rooms get adhesive grades and ventilation notes suited to small volume
- Painted adjacent walls are chosen to make the paper read crisp, not muddy
Why two feature walls are rarely the same price
- Pattern repeat size and number of drops on the wall
- Whether old paper needs steam-off and the wall needs skimming
- Working height: stair voids, double-height halls, or scaffold time
- Designer papers with fragile faces or reverse pasting rules
From substrate to final trim seal
One master vertical is set true, working lines are snapped or laser-checked, then each length is booked, relaxed where needed, and brushed out before trimming wet.
Where hanging work is booked
Wallpaper and feature installs across Dublin and into nearby counties; unusual imports are priced after a sample or roll label photo is seen.
